Tanzanian farmers grow a wide range of crops, including pigeon pea, chickpea, cow pea, green gram( mung beans) , and common beans. Pulses take up about 15% of the perennial crops production in Tanzania and are an important source of income for small-scale farmers. The pulses sector in Tanzania is

Green mung beans can be used for food and fodder,  its consumption varies from place to place. The green mung bean crops are utilized in several ways throughout the world. The seeds, sprouts and young pods are a great source of protein, amino acids, vitamins and minerals and are consumed for nutritional purposes.The plant parts are used as fodder and green manure. Green Mung beans are a good choice to make up for the protein shortage since their seeds are rich in protein and amino acids. Green mung beans  can provide significant amounts of protein (240 g/kg), carbohydrate (and a range of micronutrients for a healthy diet. Proteins and carbohydrates present in mung beans are easily digested making it a highly preferred source of food. 

Steps to be taken to improve management of green mung bean production in Tanzania:

• Initiative should be taken to Invest in farmer organizations, buying centers and purchase agreement programs. 
•  Regulation and enforcement should be improved to support of organizational models
• Farmer groups should be connected to service providers,so that service hubs are created.
• More Investment should be made on researching seed varieties, good agricultural practices and mechanization options. 
• Seed certification, inspection and labeling should be done in a better way. 
• Successful farming models should be promoted. 
• Exporting companies should reduce the duration of export procedures. 
• Centrally managed quality control systems should be executed. 
• A clear distinction should be made between domestic and international markets.
